Lord, I Believe, Help my Unbelief!
ST. JOHN 16: 31-32
How great it feels when we can say
"O Lord, I believe in you today
And I will walk with you always!"
It is such a great relief.
We who have known Him for a while,
Have walked with Him for many a mile
We look back and have to smile
At what we then called grief.
And you who have just now learned about Him
Now you join us as we praise and shout, when
You wonder, "Could you ever doubt Him?"
But just you wait a while.
For He who is called God's Anointed
Has for us each day appointed
And He will never be disappointed.
(I'm sure that He does smile)
For we think our faith will never fail us
That no storm that may assail us
Or foe or friend that may regale us
Can turn us from our goal
Yet He who knows all men's hearts,
Knows how we begin with "fits and starts"
How our faith ends when our hurt smarts
Paining our very soul
We may leave Him all alone
And our hearts become as stone
As we return to our home
For faith is such a fickle thing
No matter how strong we feel it today
It seems to swiftly pass away
And disappear at the end of day
When doubt begins to sing
When problems come, and come they will
Like the spring robin on your window sill
And with their shadows your heart fill
Remember it is not your trust then
That will keep you on the road marked right
Keep you through the darkest night
And hold until the morning light
But only the One you've learned to trust in.
For He will fold you in His arms
Shelter you from life's alarms
Keep you from all that harms
For He has said that He would
It is not Faith then that we seek
Nor even Hope that is often weak
But it is the GOD of whom we speak
For He will be faithful, for He is good.
