His Final Lesson For more than three years they had been together Through every kind and condition of weather. He had taught them both night and day By what He did or did not say. But more than the words that He had spoken Like the bread He had just broken, He set for them in words so true, "Do what I say and what I do!" Never has there been a greater teacher. He was more than just a preacher. For His every moment was just a sample As He set for then the best example. They could not hear His words of warning Or they would have been in deep mourning. They were young, with a lifetime ahead They could not think about the dead Least of all about His dying Again and again He was trying To get them used to the fact Their friend, Judas, had signed a pact And from the supper in the upper room In 24 hours there would be the tomb Their leader would soon be gone And they would have to carry on What would be the last they'd see That would help them keep their vow It was their Master before His disaster With a basin and a towel! Now herešs what we ought if we would be taught Before some gossip we repeat But let us bow with basin and towel And wash our brother's feet. Pastor Van, 4/10/98
