Let your pet teach you I saw two men their dogs out walking As with their neighbors they were talking And a great lesson I learned from them. Watching dogs and watching men! For one dog at his leash did strain Even though he felt great pain. The other was quite free to play For that one had learned to obey. I thought, "We think a dog is just a pet -- A dumb animal and we forget That one of them had learned one day That freedom is his if he but obey!" Someone asked, "Tell me why it must be That so many people do not trust me?" They never stop or think or say, "People will trust me if I obey." We were taught it from our mothers The more we do in serving others The more we will have at life's last day. All because we have learned just to obey. Now God would like to set us free Not tie us to some sturdy tree But when we can not submit to Him Or we just do it now and then, How can He let us have our way Until we can learn how to obey? 2/13/2000 gvs@idt.net.
