MIRACLES DO NOT MATTER "Show us a miracle!" they cried, "Then we'll believe," Thus they lied. For Faith comes, as we find, From the heart and not the mind. When the Baptizer named John came, Many believed and faithful remained. He did no miracle, ate strange food, Yet he made the wicked good. Then Jesus came like none of the others He was not followed by His brothers. People ate the food He had created Then His character they berated. He healed the lame, gave sight to the blind. He taught them to be always kind. He healed the leper and raised the dead, Yet still they doubted when they said, "One more time, I think will do it! I hate to once more put you through it. But just one miracle is all we need Then we will surely believe indeed!" Now here is the miracle you see each day Dainty flowers grow by the highway, The baby born, so nearly perfect and complete, With tiny ears and fragile feet. This earth of ours (now think on this one) A few miles further from the sun And we would freeze in just one hour. A few miles closer and the sun's power Would burn the world to a glowing ember. Yet with all of this they can't remember The God who made the things that are Who rules above us from afar. "If He would just prove," they calmly think, "By some new miracle of food or drink, If He could just write up in the sky Or speak to us (or at least try), "Then we would believe in Him If He would just do a miracle again." gvs@idt.net 11/7/99 http://idt.net/~gvs/ 716 Harold Street Paramus NJ 07652 (201)447-2130
