ON OUR PARENTS SPECIAL DAY You may not have a sister. You may not have a brother. But every one of us have A father and a mother. You may not remember their faces Nor even recall their name, Yet it is still true that you Have parents just the same. So what do you do when it's card time And others are joyous and glad, When you are feeling such a loss And your heart is so very sad? You still can have a father Or even a mother as well, If you leave your heart wide open For only time will tell. Someone who is now a strange May come to love you so And give to you the parent That you never got to know. When Jonathan Swift wrote his novel About a Surgeon's travels He told about the little people This mystery he unravels For it seems the six-inch people Had tiny children that they taught Not to respect their parents (Although we think they ought). For they were not thinking about them As they started the process called birth And the life down here they did not find Was so very good, living on this earth. But we do love our parents And we want them all to know Not for giving to us this life But for never letting go! They put up with our rebellion Even when we made a fuss They never stoped caring The never stopped loving us On this special day to our parents we say (Before this day is through,) "Please do not be ashamed of us For we are so very proud of you!"
