On Facing Goliath I Samuel 17:34 Before you face the giant That we might call despair, It is good if you can remember "The lion and the bear." For every new experience (Although some are quite rare) If you can take time, like David, To remember "the lion and the bear." You see, when David was just a little lad Caring for his fathers sheep Something stole a little lamb And David could not sleep Until he had found the culprit Who dared to invade his flock.. Thus he fought the bear and lion With a staff or rock. He did not stop to wonder If the animal would attack. His only thought was of his sheep And that he would bring it back. Now, when he met the giant Who was boasting night and day, So that when the soldiers heard him They wanted to run away. But when David heard the giants bragging, He thought of the lions roar. He knew that he could defeat him Because he had done it twice before. And so it is in our lives. When trouble blocks our way, If we can remember other times When all we could do was pray, Then we will not fear tomorrow With its problem and its care. If we, like little David, Can remember "the lion and the bear" Think not that David never lost A lamb to a predator, But be sure that he remembered most What God had done before. So keep in you memory bank A special "Faith Account" And fill it full of the good things That the past can recount. Remember every time that God Answered you frantic prayer. In other words, like David of old Think of "the Lion and the Bear." For there can be no Giant to hurt us No matter how much it is tryin If we can recall what God has done To the bear and to the lion. So reduce the size of the giant By remembering what God can do, For what he did for David He can surely do for you. Now here is a little secret That will reduce the giant so fat Get I out of the word and rearrange the letters And the G-i-a-n-t will become a gnat.
