“If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink” John 7:37 Our Savior’s Last Sermon “If any man thirst”, our Savior cried, And the thought came to me, Is it possible that some man May not ever thirsty be? You see the feast was over The ritual was complete, And some were now preparing To make a quick retreat. The ritual was enough. They were completely satisfied And need not to ever have The Savior crucified. Yet some were still quite thirsty There was some need still felt Down deep in the soul of the man (The place were reality dwelt) “Come unto me” the Savior, cried Not to my church or creed, For only one just like us Can satisfy our need. “And drink” was what our Savior cried Not drink in my mighty preaching, Nor did he, with solemn admonition say, That we should heed His teaching He is the source of all we lack. He promised to end our thirst. He promised to be a constant supply. He spoke at last, He must be first! Reason, wisdom, understanding, and hope Can not by themselves alone Change our lives from what they are. He only can our sins atone. So come to Jesus as you are, Not as you wish you were. He will take your rags, give you His robe, That is how it will occur And you will find, He’ll take you in And never will He you forsake. He will quench your thirst if only You will of Him partake. For all that water is to man, For washing and for life, That what He will be to thee He wants you for His wife. Some thoughts May 19, 2002
