Peter's Words St. Peter was such an ordinary bloke. He seldom thought before he spoke. Here are some times when wisdom did desert him And his words turned out to hurt him. Once he did not know just what to say But fear made him do it anyway Mark 9:6 Once his words caused him to walk on water Matt. 14:28 He also witnessed Jairus' daughter Mark 5:22 He should not have spoken when someone asked If his Master always paid his tax Matt. 17:25 When Jesus heard he sent him away wishing He had kept silent for now he was fishing And not with a net but a line and a hook. From the fish's mouth a coin he took. When, that night, as they reclined to eat And Jesus started to wash their feet, It was Peter who said, "You will never wash mine!" John 13:8 The master looked (and I am sure this time) "If I do not, then you are not mine," He said without wrath. Then Peter demanded that He give him a bath. "Who do you say that I am?" Jesus asked them Peter (his feelings he could not mask them) Blurted out, "You are God's anointed one. You are God's own dear Son!" And Jesus Blessed him, yes He did For God had revealed what He had hid. When Jesus blessed him, how great Peter felt I wonder if Peter before Jesus knelt For in just a few verses we watched Peter do it. He took hold of Jesus and nearly blew it. Matt.16:22 "Not so Lord!" he demanded so strongly Once again Peter had spoken so wrongly. Peter was doing what Satan would do And Jesus, we know, always knew Before Him lay the cross and the grave Without it even Jesus could not save. Now, knowing Peter, let us not wonder If God can use us when we so often blunder.
