Tell me not how it will be
How God will take care of me,
How I'll escape the "fowler's snare"
For God will keep me in His care.
Tell me not how God will keep
Far from me while I sleep
The "terror of the night"
Or the "arrow" in day light.
Tell me not of Destruction or Pestilence
To tell the truth it makes no sense.
How thousands call fall so close to me
Yet it "will not come nigh thee"?
Tell me not that Angel's hands will keep
The stones that can hurt my feet,
Nor how the lion and the snake
I can attack for Heaven's Sake!
But tell me life may have its pain.
For God has made it very plain,
That it is not always that He will keep
The road so smooth for His sheep.
Tell me how He will walk with me
In all of life's pain and sorrow.
How He will deliver me for the hurt
Maybe not today but tomorrow
Tell my how if I would walk
With my Savior Night and day
Then I will find what He found
As He walked the narrow way.
For if I seek a life of ease
A land of lovely flowering trees
A life like that of Heaven above,
How can I feel God's great love?
Since His own Son such sorrow found
As He walked upon our ground
And if we would walk with Him
I won't be surprised if life is grim.
His promise from His lips is true
So I know what I will do.
I will not look at life, you see,
Or dream of how life should be
But see it as it really is today
A mixture of work and play,
A mixture of both evil and good.
And with that firmly understood
I can rise above the strife
That drive folks to distraction.
For by looking with the eyes of faith
I can see my Father's action.
You see, Jesus took some bony fish
And a little bit of bread.
And with His prayer and God's power
The multitude He fed.
And He took a little water
And a very little time,
To change that common water
Into the best of wine.
So, stop looking at the circumstance
For it may not be so kind.
But fix you eyes on Jesus,
And keep this thought in mind.
It's better to know hardships
With your Savior near
Than to know a life of leisure
Without your Savior dear.
For if I see Him take a road
That leads to a path of pain
I cannot take the easy way
(For it is very plain)
That if I would walk with Jesus
And not His presence loose
Then I must give up this power of mine
To my own pathway choose
