Sing A New Song Psalm 33:3, 96:1, 98:1,149:1, 144:9 & Isaiah 42:10 The psalmist encouraged us to sing And he wanted a new song, And even the Prophet Isaiah Seemed to go along. But here is the problem before us, What is a person to do? How can we find another chorus, And what makes it brand new? Here is a truth we've discovered, When looking for a book, No matter how old the date It is new when we first take a look. Or a song that we have sung often, Because of what we now know, Will sing like a hot new melody What is new is today's glow. A new song need not mean that It has just been written. For a song is not like buying clothing When you need a brand new mitten. A new song need not mean the author Is some beardless youth Who has just discovered for himself What is an ancient truth. So, it is not the age of the anthem Nor is it the birth of the tune, For each moment in life is so new Whether morning, night or noon. So, grab the ancient song book But do not despise the new. Just sing the song until the song Is really singing you! For it is not a marketing gimmick That used music to do its selling. You see, God knew long before That a song can be very telling. For people in their pride are the losers When they reject another's song, As if only that which pleases them Is right, and all of the others wrong. It is the message the song is teaching When the lesson to you is new That will make it the very song That God is expecting from you. No matter what you experience, If you think it never happened before, Open the Psalms found in the Bible To see what God has in store. For the words may be old and ancient And even familiar to you But you will find, through your experience, A song that will be quite new. Pastor Van , 11/5/98
