The Unsingable Tune They tell me each day That there is no way That people can sing that tune. Yet I would like to know That if it was so How did we sing it at night and noon? For folk who were drinking Sang it without thinking In the pubs of old Baltimore. School kids all knew it Before some did eschew it And taught that the song is no more. The elite tried to sing it, Professionals tried to wing it, But they only made the tune sound worse. Thus they have tried to deny it. They would not let us try it. They felt that the song was a curse. It is not the beat or the time But it is the words made into rhyme That caused them to hate it so. When “Conquer we must For our cause it is just” The thought of God had to go! Now the truth can be shown For the purpose is known When they object to our loyalty pledge. It is God that they hate So let me clearly relate As they tear down Deity’s hedge. They take all that is grand About our Great land That is reflected in a pledge or song ‘Till they make us to feel shame At the mention of God’s name And teach our children that we were wrong Sing with your might this unsingable tune Sing with delight at night or at noon And the pledge of allegiance recite. Give God His own place Let them flee in disgrace And pray that our land will do right. June 29, 2002
