The First Psalm on Happiness I have heard a great deal of late Of something called, "Crimes of Hate," Yet one may search from earth to heaven above And never find a "Crime of love"! So let us end this great debate Every crime is born of hate For love would never do a wrong Hate is the theme of the sinner's song. Who then would be happy let him learn Happiness is something he can earn, It is not found in the song and dance. It does not come by happenstance, But by avoiding those whose words you know Will lead astray all of those who go Where they walk, or stand or sit. He will avoid them every wit. But in God's law he will delight Thinks of it both day and night, And like a tree that has been planted He never will take life for granted. But drink from the river that flows by Assuaging the thirst of the land that's dry, With leaves that do not change with the season. For God Himself is the only reason That anything can the righteous touch Whether he has little or so much, Since God has chosen his earthly path. The Godly man can always laugh, For like the chaff they pass away Like Jonah's gourd they last but a day When the stars are gone from the sky above God and the righteous will live and love!
