They Sat in darkness Luke 1:70 It is easy to make it through the night If when darkness shuts out the light We spend its hours restfully sleeping And not some vigil constantly keeping. But have you ever spent the night in pain Wondering if you would see dawn again Or sitting beside someone you love Looking for help from God above? Some sit in darkness awaiting a sentence Smelling the dampness that conquers the senses. Some sit in darkness the enemy to see And some sit in darkness for their sleep did flee. But all are united with one common thread Morning will come and that is their dread Or that is their hope that morning will bring An end to all of their suffering. They are the ones who see morning come Not with a trumpet or sound of drum But softly and quietly so as not to disturb Those that are steeping thus no sound is heard. And so it was that day of all days when God sent His Son to live among men, Only a whimper or a baby's low cry Was heard by the people who watched the sky. For the sun that started rising on that Christmas day Had healing and deliverance to just give away Not to the sleeping who find rest down here But those who are struggling with doubt and fear. Yes, that sun that on Christmas did rise (what a glad day) Had to set in sadness on Good Friday they say. But then Easter Morn it arose once more (what a glad hour) For this time the dawn showed that death had no power And that sun will never ever set again Come walk in its sunshine ye children of men So come to Him now, today, before the sun set Making Him Lord you will never regret. Come to your Savior, once held in Marys arms, He will cradle you safely from all alarms His nail scarred hands can capture each tear And in His sunlight there will be no more fear!
