We are having a Hospice Memorial Service this Sunday. Here is what I thought I might contribute. "WHAT YOU DO -- YOU KNOW NOT!" Let me take a moment to welcome you today And in this word of greeting, just before I pray, For you must know, who have gathered here, That you have brought to many, hours of cheer. They have not had to face that dark hour alone Or with someone who had a heart of stone. And the many hours that you gladly gave away No amount of wealth could ever begin to repay! So here is a word of "Thanks" to each of you For the many things that you say or do We gather in this place from far and near To thank each Hospice Volunteer. You may never know just what you've done In helping folk face life's setting sun. You will forget some word, some deed or comforting thought Only God can record in His book the help you have brought For many turn in fear and dread Afraid to touch the sick one's bed Saying, "To do such things just makes me nervous!" But you have joined the "Hospice Service" May God reward you, each and every one, so That when you have finished the work you've done You may hear from Him the words of praise For the way you wore your Hospice days. For He said of you so many years ago (For even then it was truly so) That when you visit the sick, you see, He said, "You were really visiting Me!" November 2, 1997 by Pastor Van
