DANGER OF ZOAR

Danger of Zoar

Genesis 19:18-22

"Is it not a little one?" Argued Lot that day. And thus we've learned to argue For this is what we say. "I don't do this and I don't do that This is my only vice. Why do you deny me this little thing You must agree I'm nice." And thus we excuse bad behavior, For it is such a little thing And when we try to change me Only hurt and pain it will bring. Now couples ruin a relationship When they use this argument. Many a midnight hour is wasted And energy is fully spent, For if it is just a "little thing" And I ask someone to do it, If they truly loved me much They would hop right to it. Now the other person reasons This little thing you mention If you really truly loved me It would not cause dissension. For you would do it yourself! For you said that it was small. And if you really loved me You wouldn't mention it at all. So the little thing we agree on For all can see that it is tiny Yet we will argue through the night 'till the sun comes up all shiny. For it is just the smallness Of the little task That we conspire to use For this is all we ask Now no matter how small the request When we factor the other's love The little, tiny, minute item Is larger than the sky above. For the truth is that what we believe Determines the size of the thing And when we add to our request This "proof of love" we bring. We set up the opportunity for A brutal fight to start And it won't be very long before We are very far apart. So stop seeking to find proof Of the other's love for you, And seek to show your own true love By the little things you do. For the little things do matter And we really want to please you But not to prove our love for you (For that would only tease you) You see, Love wants to act And act it surly will (Now never make a mountain Out of a mole hill) But take the action in a loving way Not thinking, "They don't care!" But make your reaction not their action A point of constant prayer. ghvs June 5, 1996
